A 26-year-old woman visiting her detained boyfriend at Buruburu Police Station in Nairobi was arrested after officers discovered bhang hidden in a loaf of bread she had brought for him. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced the arrest on Monday, September 21. The suspect had asked officers to pass the loaf to her boyfriend, who was already in police custody.
According to the DCI, the unsealed packaging of the loaf drew suspicion, prompting officers to inspect its contents. Inside, they found five rolls of bhang buried deep within the bread alongside a matchbox. The suspect had attempted to hide the bhang, but her plan was foiled by the vigilant officers.
A subsequent search of the suspect revealed seven additional rolls of bhang stuffed inside the pockets of her jacket, bringing the total seized to 12 rolls. The DCI stated that the suspect is now in custody with the exhibits secured and is expected to be arraigned. The incident occurred at Buruburu Police Station in Nairobi, Kenya.
In a separate operation in Thika, a suspected drug peddler was arrested following a high-speed motorcycle chase that ended in a crash. The suspect was riding with a female pillion passenger when they spotted a police roadblock ahead. In an attempt to evade the officers, the rider accelerated away but lost control of the motorcycle near Ree Supermarket.
The motorcycle crash led to the recovery of over 300 rolls of bhang, as well as an additional 3 kilograms of the drug wrapped in yellow polythene and strapped tightly to the seat. The suspect was taken to Kimuchu Police Station, where he is undergoing processing ahead of arraignment. The female passenger managed to escape into the surrounding crowd.
