The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), a global conservation organization, has been operating in Uganda for over 60 years. With a focus on conserving biological diversity and ecosystems, WCS works closely with the Ugandan government to manage and conserve wildlife. Currently, WCS is seeking two drivers to support its conservation efforts in the Greater Virunga Landscape, specifically in the Ishasha Sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park.
The successful candidates will be responsible for driving field staff and supporting the implementation of project activities. Key duties include transporting field equipment and materials, assisting with field logistics, and ensuring the safety and security of WCS staff and vehicles. Drivers will also be responsible for maintaining vehicle log sheets, ensuring regular service and maintenance of vehicles, and compiling monthly fuel consumption reports.
To qualify for the position, candidates must have a minimum of a secondary school diploma or equivalent and at least five years of progressively driving experience, preferably with an international NGO or development organization. Sound knowledge of traffic laws and road safety regulations is also required, as well as competence in managing trip logs, mileage records, and fuel usage.
The ideal candidates will have experience driving in remote and difficult terrains and conditions, as well as a valid driver's license for A, B, and D classes. Familiarity with the field environment in districts such as Kanungu, Rukungiri, and Mitooma is an added advantage. Candidates should also possess excellent communication skills and be able to work flexibly based on operational requirements.
