Nigerian Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, has urged the Ogoni people to reward President Bola Tinubu with their votes in the 2027 general elections. Wike stated that the Ogoni people should appreciate the establishment of the Federal University of Environment and Technology, which will drive employment, economic growth, and development in the area. The university was made possible through the efforts of the late Senator Barry Mpigi.

Wike made these remarks at a Rainbow Coalition town hall meeting with the people of Tai at Gbenegininwa Hall, Saakpenwa, Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State. He emphasized that the university's establishment is a significant achievement that could transform the fortunes of the area. The minister also disclosed that the Tai Local Government Council plans to partner with him on an estate project to provide accommodation for students, parents, and visitors to the institution.

During the town hall meeting, Wike welcomed back political associates who had returned to the Rainbow Coalition after disagreements. He described their reunion as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation among leaders and supporters. Wike clarified that the group had not broken into separate political parties and encouraged the leadership to ensure that returning members were treated fairly.

Wike urged residents to examine the records of political leaders seeking their support rather than relying solely on campaign promises. He questioned what some political figures had done for the area while occupying public offices, arguing that voters should assess their contributions to the development of Rivers State and the country. The minister also challenged political leaders in Tai to secure 70 per cent of votes for President Tinubu and other candidates supported by the Rainbow Coalition.

The minister recalled that Tai had traditionally been among the first local governments to deliver its election results in the Rivers South-East Senatorial District. He encouraged the local government to maintain its record, adding that it could receive additional support if it achieved the target. Wike stated that the proposed incentive was intended to encourage political mobilisation and strengthen the coalition's grassroots organisation.

In a related development, Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has charged traditional rulers in the State to maintain neutrality, ensure fairness, and uphold peace in their domains as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections. Fubara gave the charge while declaring open the 126th, 127th, and 128th Combined Quarterly Meeting of the Rivers State Traditional Rulers Council, in Port Harcourt.

Fubara urged the royal fathers to abide by the oath and constitution they swore to before ascending their respective stools, in the interest of stability and progress of the State. He also enjoined them to set aside individual sentiments and place the interest of Rivers State above personal considerations. The governor assured that he remains a man of his word and will fulfill his promises to the traditional rulers before leaving office, next year.
