Former Rivers State Governor and FCT Minister, Chief Nyesom Wike, has criticized his predecessor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, for failing to attract tangible developments to Evo Kingdom despite holding top political offices for 24 years. Wike made this statement during an interactive session with leaders and stakeholders of Evo Kingdom in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State. He questioned the moral right of those who spent decades in high offices without leaving behind a legacy of leadership or infrastructure.

Wike highlighted his own political philosophy, which centers on human capacity development, divine gratitude, and uplifting his people. He declared that unlike past leaders who used their elevation to pull down others and monopolize power, his approach focuses on empowering others. Wike also questioned Amaechi's achievements, stating that despite being Speaker, Governor, and Minister for 24 years, he has nothing to show for it in terms of development or empowerment in Evo Kingdom.

Wike took direct aim at Amaechi's 24-year tenure, challenging the kingdom to present evidence of what was attracted to the land under his rival's reign. He stated that Amaechi was Speaker of the House of Assembly for eight years, Governor for eight years, and Minister for eight years, yet brought nothing back home. Wike queried how someone who spent 24 years in power without empowering his people or raising new leaders could claim to love them.

Wike highlighted his own achievements, noting that as Minister of State for Education, he can count the projects he brought to Rivers State and his people. He stressed that he has no further personal political ambitions other than serving as a vessel for his people. Wike expressed contentment with his achievements under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that he has no desire for additional power or position.

Wike addressed the issue of leadership succession, emphasizing that a true leader leaves behind a legacy that continues after they leave office. He stated that our problem is that some leaders only focus on themselves, and when they die, everything crumbles. Wike reiterated his firm trust in God rather than human promises, declaring that the only person who will not disappoint is God.

Wike also recounted how his administration restructured the chieftaincy institution to give Evo Kingdom adequate representation in the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers. He dismissed claims that traditional politics or native charms could intimidate him. Political leaders and traditional rulers, including Eze Temple Ejekwu and Elder Peter Chinwo, assured Wike of victory for the President and other candidates endorsed by the Rainbow Coalition.

The interactive session was attended by prominent figures from Evo Kingdom, who expressed support for Wike's vision and leadership style. Wike's statements have sparked a renewed debate about leadership accountability and the responsibilities of those in power. As a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, Wike's words carry significant weight, and his criticisms of Amaechi are likely to resonate with many in the region.
