Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has stated that the next governor of the state should come from the Kwara North district. This assertion was made during a visit to the palace of the Emir of Lafiagi, Alhaji Muhammed Kudu Kawu, in Edu Local Government Area. The governor commiserated with the people over the recent flooding in the community. He emphasized that the decision to zone the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress to Kwara North aims to bring more development to the region.
The governor highlighted that it is natural for a leader's area of origin to experience more development. He expressed gratitude to the people of Kwara North, including the Lafiagi Emirate, for their support of his government. AbdulRazaq also discussed the issue of flooding, identifying the dredging of the River Niger as a lasting solution. He promised to continue pushing for this solution, engaging federal agencies such as the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy and Inland Waterways.
The visit to Lafiagi was part of AbdulRazaq's efforts to assess the damage caused by the flooding and provide succour to the affected communities. He noted that, although no lives were lost, many properties were destroyed. The governor directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to visit the area and take inventory of the losses to ensure adequate government support.
During his visit to Pututa, AbdulRazaq told the head of Pututa, Alh Muhammed Manko Ibrahim, that the government is working hard to address the challenges faced by the community. He gave them N10m to meet their immediate needs, including medical care, food, and drinking water. This gesture aims to provide relief to the affected communities.
AbdulRazaq also visited the College of Education (Technical), Lafiagi, and Lafiagi Stadium, which is under reconstruction. He promised to intensify efforts to upgrade the college to a Federal University of Education. The governor's visit reflects his administration's commitment to developing the region and improving the lives of its people.
Furthermore, AbdulRazaq expressed his intention to look into reopening the Gbugbu International Market in Lafiagi, which was previously closed for security reasons. This move is expected to boost economic activities in the area and provide opportunities for local traders.
