Water supply disruptions started on Tuesday, October 6, in multiple areas of Grand Tunis, impacting residents and businesses. The affected regions include La Marsa, Le Kram, Carthage, les Berges du Lac, La Goulette, and La Soukra. According to the Société nationale d'exploitation et de distribution des eaux (SONEDE), the outage is expected to last 36 hours, with a gradual return to service scheduled for Wednesday, October 7, starting at 13:00.

In La Marsa, specific neighborhoods experiencing disruptions include Bouselsla, Borj El Houki, Ettabek, El Hokkèm, Sidi Daoud, and Bhar Lazreg. Le Kram's affected areas comprise Kram Ouest, Jardins de Carthage, Aïn Zaghouan Nord, and Aïn Zaghouan Sud. Carthage's cité Mohamed Ali and Carthage Byrsa sectors are also impacted. Furthermore, les Berges du Lac 1, under the delegation of El Khadhra, and La Goulette's Berges du Lac 2, cité Taïeb Mhiri, El Wahat, Essalama, and L'Aouina are experiencing outages. La Soukra's Dar Fadhal sector is also affected.

The water outage is a result of ongoing projects aimed at protecting La Marsa from floods and covering the Ettabek wadi bed. During these works, a main 1000-millimeter-diameter water distribution pipe was discovered along the construction site. This pipe hinders the project's progress, necessitating its relocation and reconnection. SONEDE teams are working around the clock to restore water supply as soon as possible.

To mitigate the effects of the outage, SONEDE has implemented an emergency plan. Five 10m³-capacity tanker trucks are available to supply essential establishments, such as health facilities and schools, if needed. Residents and businesses in affected areas are advised to take precautions and store sufficient water for essential needs.

The gradual return of water supply is expected to start on Wednesday, October 7, at 13:00. However, this does not imply a simultaneous return to normal service across all affected areas. The restoration process will be progressive, depending on the specific sectors concerned. SONEDE urges residents to remain patient and to continue taking necessary precautions.

SONEDE emphasizes that work on the project continues without interruption, day and night, with technical teams mobilized to restore the water supply. The relocation and reconnection of the main pipe are crucial to completing the flood protection project and ensuring the long-term reliability of the water distribution network.

As the situation develops, residents and businesses are encouraged to stay informed about the progress of the water supply restoration. SONEDE will likely provide updates on the status of the outage and the return to service. In the meantime, those affected are advised to manage their water resources prudently and make use of the emergency services provided.
