The Tunisian National Water Exploitation and Distribution Company, known as SONDE, announced on Friday, September 25, 2026, that urgent repair works on a major water channel have caused disruptions and interruptions in the distribution of drinking water in several areas of Bizerte. The affected regions include the delegations of Al-Aliyah, Ras Al-Jebel, and Gar Al-Melah, as well as areas of Aqeb, Sidi Mansour, and Al-Jouaweda in the delegation of Manzil Buriqibah.
The disruptions also affect areas of Al-Azib and Maghrawa in the delegation of Manzil Jamil, Bizerte Governorate. According to SONDE, the interruptions started at 7:00 AM on Saturday, September 26, 2026, and are expected to continue for several hours. The company assured that water supply will gradually resume starting from 6:00 AM on Sunday, September 27, 2026, once the repair works are completed.
The repair works are focused on fixing an emergency fault on the main 1000 mm diameter water channel. SONDE stated that the works will continue around the clock to minimize the duration of the disruptions. The company apologized for any inconvenience caused and urged residents to take necessary precautions.
The affected areas are expected to experience water shortages until the supply is fully restored. Residents are advised to store water for essential needs during the disruption period. SONDE has not provided an estimated volume of water affected or the number of people impacted by the disruptions.
This is not an isolated incident, as several regions across Tunisia have experienced water supply issues in recent times. On the same day, SONDE announced a tender for the renewal of a pumping station in the Hay Al-Askari region of Hammam Al-Ghazaz, Nabul Governorate.
