Tunisia's national water distribution company, SONEDE, has announced disruptions to the water supply in several areas across four governorates: Kairouan, Sousse, Monastir, and Mahdia. The disruptions began on Monday, September 21, at 12:00 PM, due to a fault in a main water supply pipe. The affected areas include various localities and delegations within these governorates.
In Kairouan, the affected areas are primarily in the Kairouan Nord delegation, specifically in the localities of Al Houme and Al Ghabet. In Sousse, the disruptions are concentrated in the delegations of Sidi El Hani, Kalaa Sghira, and Msaken. Sidi El Hani's affected localities include Sidi El Hani, Ouled Alouane, Ghabghoub, Ouled Khechine, and Ouled El Fellah. Kalaa Sghira's affected areas are Oued Laïa, Naker, Dorgham, Noualet, and Jabline.
The Msaken delegation in Sousse also faces disruptions, affecting areas such as the STIP factory, Karrat El Manjour, Kneyes, Chihia, Ouled Toumi, Bnin Rbiaa, Bayadha, Bni Kathoum, Frada, and Borjine. In Monastir, the delegations of Zemradine, Jammal, Ouerdanine, and Benbla are experiencing water supply issues. Specifically, Zemradine's affected areas are Menzel Hayet, El Alelcha, Mzeghoua, and Mlichat.
In Jammal, the affected localities are Menzel Kamel, Bir Taïeb, and Hdadra. Ouerdanine's affected areas include Ouerdanine, Oued Jebes, Bou Othman, and Manzel Khir. Benbla's affected locality is Manzel Nour. Additionally, in Mahdia, the delegation of Boumerdes, particularly the town of Karkar, is facing water supply disruptions.
SONEDE reports that repair work on the main 600 mm pipe is ongoing and will continue uninterrupted for 24 hours. The company expects a gradual return to normal water supply starting Tuesday, September 22, at 8:00 AM. However, the restoration of water supply may occur at different times across the affected zones.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to manage their water resources accordingly until the repairs are completed and normal supply resumes. The disruptions are a result of necessary maintenance work to repair the faulty main pipe and ensure the long-term reliability of the water supply infrastructure.
Once the repairs are completed, water supply will be restored progressively, and the situation will be monitored to ensure that normal supply is maintained. SONEDE apologizes for any inconvenience caused and is working to minimize the impact of the disruptions on residents and businesses in the affected areas.
