The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the appointment of Mr. Suleiman Danlami Kum as the new Head of the Nigeria National Office. Kum brings 28 years of experience with WAEC, having joined the council on July 17, 1998. Throughout his career, he has held various strategic positions across different offices and departments. His extensive experience in test development, administration, and examination security makes him well-suited for his new role.

Kum's career at WAEC has been marked by several notable positions, including Assistant Registrar II/Head, Exams Security, in Awka, Yola, and Makurdi. He has also served as Senior Assistant Registrar I/Branch Controller in Gusau, Principal Assistant Registrar/Branch Controller in Kano, and Deputy Registrar/Head, Security Printing Department. Additionally, he has held positions as Deputy Registrar/Zonal Coordinator in Port Harcourt and Ikeja. His leadership skills have earned him institutional commendations and accolades.

Before his appointment as Head of the Nigeria National Office, Kum served as Deputy Registrar in the Head of National Office’s Office. He also previously served as Senior Deputy Registrar/Test Administration from September 2025 to August 2026 and Director of Administration from January 2024 to August 2025. Kum's experience in branch and zonal office management will be valuable in his new role.

Kum has driven several administrative and technological innovations during his career. He established the Gusau office as a custodial centre and pioneered variable data prints and enhanced code security features in security printing. He also replaced the council-wide attendance system with facial-recognition biometric devices and led the seamless delivery of achievement tests using the computer-based examination mode.

According to Moyosola Adesina, Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, Kum's leadership across various portfolios has been marked by integrity, diligence, innovation, and commitment to service. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Agriculture in Animal Production from the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Education from the National Open University of Nigeria.

Kum began his professional career in 1993 during his National Youth Service Corps deployment at the Division of Agricultural Colleges, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He later worked at Baptist High School, Jos, where he served as form master, labour master, classroom teacher, and health master. His service at the school earned him the Light and Life Staff Merit award.

Born on October 16, 1970, in Minna, Niger State, Kum hails from Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State. He is currently completing a Master of Education in Educational Administration and Planning at the National Open University of Nigeria. With his extensive experience and educational background, Kum is well-equipped to lead the Nigeria National Office.
