Before joining WAEC, Kum served at the Division of Agricultural Colleges, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, during his NYSC programme. He also taught at Baptist High School, Jos, where he held various capacities between 1995 and 1998. His career at WAEC has seen him occupy several strategic positions, including Head of Examinations Security in Awka, Yola, and Makurdi.
