The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the appointment of Amos Dangut as its new Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, and Suleiman Kum as the Head of the Nigeria National Office. He also held the position of Deputy Registrar in the office of the Head of National Office before becoming Head of the Nigeria National Office in October 2023. WAEC describes him as an experienced test developer and administrator with expertise in test development, administration, and branch and zonal office management.
As Registrar, Mr. Dangut will oversee WAEC's operations across its member countries. He has a strong educational background, holding a Bachelor of Agriculture in Animal Production, a Master of Science in Animal Science, a Doctor of Philosophy in Animal Science, and a Master of Education in Administration and Planning. His contributions to the education sector have been recognized, including an award for meritorious service from the Ondo State government and Akoko South Local Government.
Suleiman Kum, the new Head of the Nigeria National Office, has also risen through the ranks at WAEC since joining in 1998. He has served in various roles, including Head of Examinations Security, Branch Controller, and Zonal Coordinator. WAEC describes Mr. Kum as an experienced test developer and administrator with expertise in examination security, test administration, and branch and zonal office management. He has led several initiatives, including the introduction of facial-recognition biometric attendance systems and computer-based examinations.
Mr. Kum's career began in 1993 during his National Youth Service Corps deployment, and he has worked in various educational institutions before joining WAEC. He holds a Bachelor of Agriculture in Animal Production, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education, and is currently completing a Master of Education in Educational Administration and Planning. His experience and skills will be valuable in his new role at the Nigeria National Office.
