Vice President Kashim Shettima has launched the Community Investment Fund (CIF) under the Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up (NFWP-SU) in Katsina State. The program aims to empower women groups who own small businesses to grow and become self-reliant. The project is a collaboration between the World Bank and the state government. It was initially targeted at about 50,000 women from three local government council areas of Katsina, Daura, and Funtua.
The Vice President conducted the event at the Karkanda stadium in Katsina on Sunday. He arrived in the state through the Umaru Musa Yar'Adua International Airport and was received by Governor Dikko Radda. The Governor was accompanied by the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Usman, members of the State Executive Council, and other top government functionaries.
In addition to launching the CIF, the Vice President also commissioned three major road projects executed by the administration of Governor Dikko Radda. The roads projects include the dualised 4.80km Kofar Sauri – Central Mosque Roundabout Road, the dualised 2.40km Central Police Station Junction – Kofar Kaura Underpass Road, and the newly constructed 4km Filin Polo – Ring Road.
The Vice President also inspected a quarter guard mounted by men of the Nigeria Air Force upon his arrival in the state. He later launched 30 CNG hybrid buses and 200 Phase I electric tricycles at the Old Ministry of Works to boost mass transportation in the state. This initiative aims to provide sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation options for the residents of Katsina.
The launch of the CIF and the commissioning of road projects are part of the Vice President's efforts to promote economic growth and development in Katsina State. The CIF will provide financial support to women groups, enabling them to expand their businesses and become more self-reliant. The road projects will also improve the state's infrastructure, enhancing connectivity and accessibility.
The Vice President also received some decampees into the All Progressives Congress (APC) at a political gathering held at Peoples Square, Government House. This event was attended by various party leaders and members. The decampees were welcomed into the APC, further strengthening the party's presence in the state.
