Robin Ondieki, a veteran driver with 98 Sacco, has expressed his gratitude for the new customised matatus introduced by George Ruto, saying they have created employment opportunities for young people. With 15 years of driving experience, Ondieki currently operates one of six customised 33-seater minibuses added to the 98 Sacco fleet last month. He praised the experience of operating the new vehicles, citing smooth operations and good customer service.

The new vehicles were unveiled by George Ruto on September 19, 2026, in Nairobi's Central Business District. The launch attracted significant public attention due to the elaborate designs and attention surrounding George's growing matatu business. A religious blessing was also conducted, with a pastor sprinkling holy water on the vehicles before they began operations. This event marked a significant milestone in George's expanding matatu fleet.

George Ruto's passion for the matatu industry dates back to his school days. What started with a single vehicle in 2025 has grown into a fleet of 17 matatus, with six more reportedly in the pipeline. This expansion has positioned George among a growing number of young entrepreneurs investing in Nairobi's competitive matatu industry. His business has become a notable player in the market.

The customised matatus are designed in the popular nganya style, featuring bold graffiti artwork, bucket seats, customised rims, LED mood lighting, and powerful sound systems. One of the flagship vehicles, Mood, takes the concept further with DJ decks installed inside the matatu. These customisations come at an additional cost on top of the standard Isuzu 33-seater price, which starts at approximately KSh6.8 million.

Each of George's newly unveiled vehicles is estimated to have cost more than KSh7 million, putting the combined value of the six minibuses at over KSh42 million. The 98 Sacco matatus primarily operate on routes connecting Embakasi and Ongata Rongai, serving some of Nairobi's busiest commuter corridors. This strategic route selection has enabled the fleet to cater to a large customer base.

George's first matatu, Raptor, inspired the name Raptor Family, which has become associated with his fleet. Other vehicles in the growing collection include Money Fest, Mood, Matrix, and Manifest. The Raptor Family has gained recognition in Nairobi's matatu industry, with its unique designs and growing presence on the city's roads.

The introduction of George Ruto's matatu fleet has had a positive impact on the industry, creating jobs for young people and contributing to the growth of Nairobi's transportation sector. With plans for further expansion, George's business is expected to continue playing a significant role in the city's commuter transport landscape.
