The Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) has entered into discussions with Buckreef Gold Company (BGC) to foster collaboration and develop a skilled workforce for Tanzania's mining sector. The partnership aims to provide practical training opportunities for VETA students and instructors, as well as enhance the skills of BGC employees. This initiative was announced during a meeting held at BGC's conference room on October 1, 2026.

According to Monica Mbelle, VETA's Northern Region Manager, the partnership will enable VETA students to gain work experience and enhance their skills in various fields. The collaboration will also provide training opportunities for VETA instructors to acquire new skills and knowledge in line with current job market demands. This will enable them to provide relevant training to students.

Mbelle emphasized that the partnership will also focus on providing technical skills training to local communities surrounding the mine, funded by BGC. This initiative aims to empower young people in the region with skills that can enhance their employability and socio-economic well-being. VETA will work closely with BGC to design programs that cater to the needs of local communities.

Isaac Bisansaba, Managing Director of BGC, urged local communities to take advantage of the opportunities arising from the partnership. He disclosed that the company has started identifying young people who have completed their secondary education to support them in joining VETA institutions by covering part of their training costs and providing them with internship opportunities at the mine.

The partnership between VETA and BGC is expected to have a positive impact on the mining sector in Tanzania by addressing the skills gap and promoting local content. The collaboration will not only enhance the skills of local workers but also contribute to the country's economic growth and development.

As part of the partnership, BGC will provide financial support to enable VETA students to pursue their studies and gain practical experience in the mining sector. This will help bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical skills, making graduates more employable and equipped to contribute to the country's economic growth.

The VETA-BGC partnership is a significant step towards promoting skills development and local content in Tanzania's mining sector. The initiative is expected to have a positive impact on the country's economic growth, create job opportunities, and empower local communities with skills and knowledge that can enhance their socio-economic well-being.
