The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) has signed a partnership deal with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as an official sponsor of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). This historic sponsorship deal was launched at the Marriott Hotel in Kampala, with 232 days left until the tournament's kickoff. The 2027 AFCON will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda under the Pamoja AFCON 2027 bid, marking the first time three nations will host the continent's biggest football showpiece.

CAF General Secretary, Samson Adam, expressed gratitude to UTB for their trust and confidence in the continental football governing body. He noted that AFCON 2027 means more than just football, as it will leave a lasting sporting legacy, change the face of the host nations, and open Uganda to more foreign investors. Adam also revealed that CAF reversed its decision to hold AFCON every four years, opting to maintain the tournament every two years.

State Minister of Tourism, Hon. Suzan Nakawuki, emphasized that UTB must approach the partnership with a clear and strategic focus to ensure benefits trickle down to every Ugandan. She highlighted that the tourism value chain should benefit everyone, from airport taxi drivers to farmers supplying food. This strategic approach aims to maximize the impact of the partnership on Uganda's economy.

Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, applauded UTB for marketing Uganda to the right people at the right time. He challenged Ugandans to shape the country as a brand, noting that deliberate and aggressive marketing is necessary to attract foreign direct investment. Tayebwa emphasized that Uganda must be marketed intentionally to attract foreign investors.

The AFCON 2027 Pamoja edition is expected to attract thousands of fans, teams, and international media to East Africa, presenting a golden opportunity for Uganda to showcase its tourism potential to the continent and the world. This event will provide a platform for Uganda to promote its tourist attractions, culture, and hospitality.

The partnership between UTB and CAF is expected to boost Uganda's tourism and sports sectors. With a clear strategy in place, Uganda aims to capitalize on the tournament's impact and create a lasting legacy. The country's tourism industry is poised to benefit from the increased visibility and influx of visitors.
