Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abebe has stressed that urban development projects must be carried out in a manner that preserves residents' dignity and well-being. Speaking at the handover ceremony of 960 newly constructed apartments in the Qitel Terara area, Mayor Abebe emphasized that cities should provide residents with a better quality of life, dignity, and comfortable living conditions. The newly constructed apartments were built on a site that was previously considered uninhabitable.
The Qitel Terara area was previously known for its poor living conditions, with residents facing numerous challenges, including a high risk of fire hazards. Mayor Abebe recalled that the area was dirty, congested, and unsuitable for human habitation. However, the city administration has transformed the area into a modern and comfortable living space, with the construction of nine 9-story buildings, comprising 960 apartments.
The newly constructed apartments are part of the "Merkato Benevolent Residential Village" project, which was built on an 11,000 square meter plot. The project includes 371 commercial shops, a children's playground, sports facilities, and a parking lot for residents' vehicles. The apartments are equipped with modern amenities, including elevators, sewage systems, and electric power supply.
Mayor Abebe highlighted that the transformation of the Qitel Terara area is a significant example of the city's efforts to upgrade slum areas and provide residents with a better quality of life. The project is part of a broader initiative to transform similar areas, including Jigid Terara, Gebs Terara, Sar Terara, and Bomb Terara.
The construction of the apartments was completed within four months, and the city administration has ensured that the new living space is equipped with all the necessary amenities. Residents who were previously relocated from the area have been provided with the new apartments, which are designed to provide a comfortable and secure living environment.
Mayor Abebe expressed his gratitude to all parties involved in the construction project and emphasized that the city administration will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that Addis Ababa becomes a beautiful and clean city, providing a comfortable living environment for its residents.
