The Upper East Regional Directorate of the National Sports Authority (NSA) has expressed its commitment to supporting the development of taekwondo in the region. This assurance was given by the Upper East Regional Sports Director, Abdul-Rahman Danladi, when officials of the Upper East Regional Taekwondo Association (UERTA) visited his office on Friday, September 25, 2026. During the visit, the association presented medals won by the Upper East Regional taekwondo team at this year’s Korean Ambassador’s Cup in Accra.
The Upper East Regional Taekwondo Association used the courtesy visit to discuss the development of the sport in the region. The association's officials presented medals to the NSA and also informed them about their plans and activities. Mr. Danladi, who has a background in taekwondo, congratulated the team on its impressive performance at the Korean Ambassador’s Cup. He encouraged the association to continue identifying and developing athletes in the region.
Abdul-Rahman Danladi assured the Upper East Regional Taekwondo Association of his office’s readiness to support its activities. However, he urged the association to communicate its programmes and competitions to the NSA early enough to allow the authority to plan for possible assistance. According to him, timely communication could enable the authority to determine what resources and other forms of support could be made available for the association’s activities.
The Upper East Regional Sports Director also appealed to government institutions, businesses, and non-governmental organisations to support taekwondo and help develop athletes capable of representing the Upper East Region at competitions. He believes that with the right support, the region can produce athletes who can compete at the national and international levels. The NSA's support for taekwondo is expected to boost the development of the sport in the region.
The visit by UERTA officials to the NSA office followed the presentation of the medals to the association's chairman, R.Y. Mark Billa, on Thursday, September 24.
