The Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has introduced digital clearance and certificate systems to reduce delays in students' graduation processes. Vice-Chancellor, Prof Bond Anyaehie, disclosed this at the 2026 International Convention of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Alumni Association in Abuja. The convention's theme was "Innovation, Integrity and Inclusion: Rekindling the Zik Vision for a New Era." Anyaehie stated that the digital system aims to streamline the graduation process.
The digital clearance system enables graduating students to complete the process from anywhere in the world and receive approval within five days. This eliminates delays associated with manual clearance procedures. The university also introduced a system that automatically generates provisional certificates after students complete their clearance. These certificates contain barcodes for easy authentication by employers and other institutions.
The provisional certificates can be downloaded online and have a barcode that can be scanned to authenticate them. Anyaehie explained that once students finish the clearance, the system generates a provisional certificate. This innovation aims to reduce the time and effort required for students to obtain their certificates. The barcode feature also helps prevent certificate forgery.
The university has also digitized its transcript processing system to make the process faster. Staff responsible for transcript processing have been encouraged to ensure that students and graduates do not experience unnecessary delays. This move is part of the university's efforts to improve its services and provide a better experience for students.
Anyaehie announced plans to improve classroom facilities, ensuring that students no longer have to attend lectures in classrooms without adequate seating and other necessary facilities. The administration is committed to repositioning the university through collaboration with its alumni and other partners. This initiative aims to create a more conducive learning environment for students.
Anyaehie acknowledged the contributions of the university's alumni chapters and other partners, stating that their support has helped the institution execute projects and address some of its challenges. He expressed his appreciation for their efforts and encouraged them to continue supporting the university. The university values its partnerships and aims to work together with its stakeholders to achieve its goals.
Anyaehie emphasized the importance of collaboration, stating that the university can achieve more by working together with its alumni and partners. He expressed his commitment to growing a university that fits its name and answers to its vision. The university aims to rekindle the Zik vision and provide a world-class education to its students.
