The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has reassured parents and guardians that all candidates registered for the 2026 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) will be allowed to sit their examinations. This comes after concerns over registration irregularities at a school in Wakiso District. According to UNEB Principal Public Relations Officer Jennifer Kalule-Musamba, 11 learners from Skyland Primary School in Wakiso who had initially missed registration have been successfully registered at Kyebando UMEA Primary School.

The 11 learners from Skyland Primary School will sit their examinations alongside other candidates without any disruption. Kalule-Musamba urged parents to remain calm, emphasising that arrangements had been made to ensure that no affected learner misses the national examinations due to the registration issue. This development has brought relief to parents and guardians who were worried about the impact of the registration irregularities on their children's academic progress.

A total of 920,833 candidates have registered for the 2026 PLE, representing a 12.5 per cent increase from the 817,885 candidates registered in 2025. This significant increase in registration numbers indicates a growing number of students in Uganda's education system. The examinations are scheduled to commence on Tuesday, November 3, with Mathematics in the morning, followed by Social Studies and Religious Education in the afternoon.

The Board’s assurance comes as thousands of candidates across the country prepare to sit their final primary school examinations, marking an important milestone in their academic journey. Parents and school administrators have been urged to ensure that candidates are adequately prepared and report to their respective examination centres on time. This will help to ensure a smooth and successful examination process.

The UNEB officials made the assurance during the fourth joint security and examinations press briefing held on Monday at Police Headquarters in Naguru. The briefing was attended by various stakeholders, including parents, school administrators, and security officials. The meeting aimed to address concerns and provide updates on the examination process.

The 2026 PLE examinations are a critical milestone in the academic journey of Ugandan students. The results of these examinations will determine the students' eligibility for secondary education. Therefore, it is essential that all candidates are able to sit their examinations without any disruptions. The UNEB assurance has brought relief to stakeholders who were worried about the impact of the registration irregularities.

With the examinations just around the corner, stakeholders are working hard to ensure a smooth and successful process. The UNEB has put in place measures to prevent any further irregularities and ensure that all candidates can sit their examinations. The Board has also urged parents and school administrators to cooperate with the examination officials to ensure the integrity of the examination process.
