Social commentator Nana Frimpong Ziega has come forward with allegations that party insiders attempted to reverse his nephew Kojo Fosu Boadu's victory in the New Patriotic Party's vice-chairmanship race. Ziega, who is the uncle of Kojo Fosu Boadu, also known as Kojo Bamba, made the claims about the October 3, 2026, national executive election in Kumasi. According to Ziega, the alleged attempt to overturn the result was made immediately after votes were counted.

Ziega alleged that the effort to reverse Bamba's win was tied to his prior political service to certain party figures. He claimed that because Bamba had previously worked for Nana B and had entered politics after Nana Akomea, certain party figures were unwilling to accept Bamba finishing ahead of either of them. As a result, they approached him and asked him to accept third place for the sake of party harmony.

According to Ziega, Bamba refused to go along with the arrangement and took a stand at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to signal he would not be swayed. Ziega said Bamba warned that he had roughly 150 supporters stationed at the venue who were aware he had won and cautioned that any attempt to alter the declared results would cause the gathering to erupt. Ziega said those pushing for the reversal subsequently backed off.

Ziega further claimed that the party's flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, had no knowledge of the alleged plan to change the outcome. Ghanaweb news did not report any response from Bawumia, Nana Akomea, Nana B, or the NPP's electoral authorities to these specific allegations. The NPP's national executive elections were part of the party's "Road to 2028" campaign.

Bamba's win forms part of the NPP's broader national executive elections held on October 3, 2026, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. On the same day, Hamid suffered a surprise defeat in the vice-chairmanship race, losing by 31 votes, while Titus Glover secured the national organiser position on his second attempt and John Boadu emerged as national chairman following a chaotic vote.

The NPP's national executive, including the vice-chairmanship post Bamba now holds, plays a central role in organising the party's internal affairs and campaign machinery ahead of the 2028 elections. Allegations of attempted result-tampering raise questions for NPP members and the wider public about the transparency of the internal elections that will shape the party's leadership heading into that contest.

It remains unclear whether the party plans to investigate the allegations further or respond publicly to Ziega's claims. No timeline for any official clarification has been given. The allegations have added a fresh layer of controversy to the NPP's national executive election in Kumasi.
