The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State has taken steps to strengthen its grassroots structures ahead of the 2027 general elections. The party has constituted ward and local government election committees to commence mobilisation and coordination across the local government. This move is aimed at securing victory in all six elective contests being targeted by the APC.
The decision to constitute the committees was taken at a meeting of the Ughelli North APC Leadership Council hosted by its Chairman and founding leader of the APC in Delta State, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, OON. The meeting was held at his residence in Evwreni, Ughelli North. During the meeting, the formal reception of executives and members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from various wards in Ughelli North who recently defected to the APC took place.
Addressing party leaders and stakeholders, Emerhor stated that the meeting was convened to consider and approve the report of the Election Planning Committee previously constituted by the Leadership Council. He mentioned that at their last meeting, they set up the Election Planning Committee and gave them two weeks to complete their assignment. The Executive Committee had reviewed the report and some of its recommendations before presenting them to the enlarged Leadership Council for consideration and approval.
Emerhor explained that the exercise was aimed at giving the party’s election structures across Ughelli North their final shape and enabling the committees to begin work immediately. The six elective contests being targeted by the APC include the presidency, governorship, Senate, House of Representatives, and the two Delta State House of Assembly constituencies in Ughelli North. He commended party members for their loyalty and commitment, while urging the leadership and grassroots structures to work together as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.
During the meeting, Emerhor announced the death of one of the party’s chairmen in Orogun Ward 2 and led members in observing a minute’s silence in his honour. He expressed condolences to the deceased’s family and directed the member representing Ughelli North Constituency I in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Matthew Omonade, to convey the party’s condolences and support to the family. This gesture demonstrated the party’s unity and respect for its members.
The meeting was attended by APC leaders, elected representatives, political appointees, and grassroots stakeholders from across Ughelli North. Notable attendees included the member representing Ughelli North/Ughelli South/Udu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Rev. Francis Ejiroghene Waive; former APC National Women Leader and Executive Director at the Nigerian Export-Import Bank, Hon. Stella Okotete; Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Council, Hon.
