The Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC) has attained the ISO 9001:2015 certification, confirming that its Quality Management System (QMS) meets internationally recognised requirements. This achievement demonstrates UPPC's commitment to delivering consistent products and services through structured, accountable, and continuously improving processes. The certification is expected to strengthen confidence in UPPC's services while positioning the Government-owned institution to compete more effectively for printing and publishing business both within Uganda and across regional and international markets.
UPPC Managing Director Prof. Sudi Nangoli described the certification as an important milestone in the Corporation's transformation into a modern printing and publishing institution capable of competing on the basis of internationally recognised quality standards. Prof. Nangoli said the achievement demonstrates that UPPC has established systems that meet international quality requirements while strengthening the Corporation's credibility among existing and potential customers. He added that the certification will enable UPPC to compete more effectively for opportunities both at home and in the international market.
The certification provides UPPC with a recognised framework for managing its processes, monitoring performance, and identifying areas requiring improvement. It also reinforces the Corporation's focus on consistency in the production and delivery of printing and publishing services. UPPC Director of Business Development Rebecca Nyakairu said the certification reflects deliberate efforts by the Corporation to strengthen its internal systems and establish quality management as a central part of its operations.
Nyakairu noted that the ultimate objective of achieving ISO certification is to improve the experience and value delivered to customers. She said that the Corporation has strengthened its processes to deliver greater consistency, efficiency, and accountability, while creating a culture of continuous improvement across UPPC. The new quality management framework is expected to support more consistent service delivery while helping the Corporation improve efficiency and accountability in its operations.
UPPC plays a critical role in Uganda's public information system as the official Government publisher. The Corporation is responsible for publishing and disseminating authoritative Government information, including the Uganda Gazette, laws and legislation, and other official Government publications. In addition to its statutory responsibilities, UPPC provides commercial printing and publishing services to public and private-sector organisations as well as individuals.
The attainment of ISO 9001:2015 certification comes at a significant point in the Corporation's development as it seeks to balance its traditional Government publishing mandate with increased participation in the commercial printing and publishing market. The internationally recognised certification could also enhance the Corporation's ability to demonstrate its quality management standards when pursuing contracts and partnerships beyond Uganda.
UPPC has a long history dating back more than a century, beginning operations as the Government Printer in 1902 under the British Colonial Government. Following Uganda's independence in 1962, the Government Printer remained under the Office of the President before the institution later evolved into the Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation. The Corporation was established as a public enterprise in 1992 and is fully owned by the Government of Uganda.
