The Gambia First Coalition, led by the United Democratic Party (UDP), has launched its manifesto, dubbed "The Gambia We Want," in preparation for the December 5 election. The coalition's presidential candidate, Lawyer Ousainu Darboe, presented the manifesto, which outlines four key missions aimed at rescuing the country through comprehensive reforms. These missions focus on economic renewal, constitutional reform, security sector overhaul, and civil service transformation.

Darboe emphasized that the coalition's agenda is built on the principles of "One Term, One Vision, One Mission, National Renewal." He committed to serving only one five-year term and outlined several initiatives to be implemented within the first 100 days of his presidency. These include reviewing the 2027 budget to eliminate waste, reducing the Office of the President's budget, and taking a 20 percent pay cut. Darboe stressed that leadership must begin with sacrifice, calling for those in privileged positions to make concessions.

The first mission, economic renewal, aims to create an economy that rewards hard work and provides opportunities for all citizens. Darboe pledged to invest in irrigation, mechanization, food processing, and affordable financing for women farmers. He also promised to strengthen fisheries, tourism, and local production to reduce dependence on imports. The coalition plans to review the 2027 budget and pursue parliamentary revisions to eliminate waste and promote economic growth.

The second mission focuses on constitutional renewal, with the introduction of a new draft constitution within the first year, based on the 2020 Draft. This reform aims to strengthen the rule of law and fundamental freedoms. Darboe emphasized that the presidency must be an institution of service, not a throne of privilege, and that no president should be above the Constitution.

The third mission involves reforming the security services to make them professional, equipped, accountable, and neutral. These services should protect Gambians and uphold the Constitution, rather than serving party interests. The fourth mission focuses on civil service reform, promoting merit-based recruitment, professional development, and accountability. Darboe also pledged to improve healthcare, education, electricity, and water services, and to strengthen local councils.

Darboe described the manifesto as a social contract, promising performance monitoring, progress reports, and accountability. He emphasized that the coalition's efforts are not about personal or group interests but about restoring ownership of the government to the people. The manifesto launch marks a significant step in the coalition's campaign ahead of the December 5 election.

The Gambia First Coalition's manifesto has been presented as a comprehensive plan for the country's renewal. Key aspects include economic reforms, constitutional changes, security sector overhaul, and civil service transformation. The coalition aims to address the country's challenges and provide a better future for its citizens.
