The County Government of Uasin Gishu has pledged to support emerging self-help groups in transforming into investment cooperatives. County Executive Committee Member for Cooperatives Philip Chebunet reaffirmed Governor Jonathan Bii's commitment to building sustainable cooperative societies during an engagement with members of Galilee Self Help Group in Eldoret City. The county government will provide technical guidance, training, and financial backing to accelerate grassroots wealth creation.

Chebunet emphasized that Governor Bii's cooperative agenda focuses on enterprise funding, capacity building, and technical support. He urged the Galilee Self Help Group, which is preparing to register as an investment cooperative, to maintain its savings culture and adopt sound investment practices. According to Chebunet, well-managed cooperatives have the power to create wealth, improve livelihoods, and drive local economic growth.

County Director of Enterprise Development, Kipleting Mengich, encouraged the group to stay consistent with their contributions while assuring them of ongoing support. Mengich stated that the department will provide training on cooperative management, investment strategies, and how to access the County Enterprise Fund. This support aims to empower the group to achieve its long-term vision.

Director of Cooperatives Drucilla Cherogony assured the group that the registration process would be prioritized once they meet all requirements. She stated that fast-tracking their registration will open the door for members to benefit from government-supported cooperative programs. This move is part of the county's broader efforts to strengthen community-based enterprises.

Galilee Self Help Group Chairperson, John Saina, revealed that the group was formed only a few months ago with a clear long-term vision of becoming a fully-fledged investment cooperative. Saina stated that members have raised about Sh1 million, with each person contributing at least Sh50,000 every month towards their investment plans.
