Detectives in Kenya have arrested two additional suspects in connection with the murder of a 65-year-old woman who was killed inside her home in Kithoka Village, Meru county, in August. According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the latest arrests followed investigations that linked the two suspects to an alleged plot to eliminate the woman over a longstanding land dispute.

The 65-year-old woman was murdered on the evening of August 7, 2026, while preparing supper alongside her 13-year-old grandson inside her home. The DCI stated that the suspects allegedly conspired to have the woman killed before hiring a man who was arrested earlier to execute the murder. The two latest suspects have since been arraigned in court, where investigators obtained orders for them to be detained pending a mental assessment.

The arrests bring to three the number of suspects apprehended in connection with the killing, following the arrest of the alleged gunman on September 22. Investigators believe that the communication between the two latest suspects pointed to prior planning and coordination in the commission of the crime. The DCI said that the assailants struck as the two were in the house, leaving the woman dead.

The two latest suspects are alleged to have maintained contact with each other both before and after the incident. The DCI stated that investigations established that the suspects conspired to eliminate the deceased over a longstanding land dispute before hiring the first suspect to execute the murder. They are expected to take plea on November 4, 2026.

The latest arrests come as detectives continue to pursue additional leads to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and identify any other people who may have been involved. The DCI said that investigations were ongoing as officers worked to ensure that all those implicated in the murder were brought to justice.

The authority also extended its condolences to the family, friends, and relatives of the deceased following the killing. It urged members of the public with information that could assist ongoing investigations to share it through its reporting channels. The DCI remains committed to solving the case and bringing the perpetrators to justice.

The case highlights the need for vigilance and cooperation between law enforcement and the public in solving crimes. The DCI's efforts in investigating the murder and arresting the suspects have been commended by the community. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of resolving disputes peacefully and the consequences of resorting to violence.
