Tunisian Minister of Equipment and Housing Salah Zwari conducted a field visit to Ariana Governorate on Wednesday, inspecting several flood protection projects, including the protection of Rawad. The visit aimed to monitor progress, address challenges, and accelerate project completion. Zwari was accompanied by Ariana Governor Walid Sandid during the visit.
The total value of flood protection projects in Ariana amounts to approximately 100 million dinars. Zwari stated that recent rainfall led to several issues affecting citizens, prompting the ministry to schedule the visit to assess urgent measures taken to overcome difficulties and continue project implementation. The minister emphasized the importance of expediting project completion.
The field inspection aimed to identify priorities in project implementation, considering the challenges faced by citizens during recent rainfall. Zwari instructed contractors and supervisory offices to complete ongoing work, including pipe installation and stormwater drainage channels, and proceed with road infrastructure preparation to ensure functionality.
Zwari noted that current climate conditions allow for the continuation of significant roadwork, stressing the need for contractors to intensify efforts and mobilize teams to complete road infrastructure preparation as soon as possible. The goal is to finalize all project contracts before the summer of 2027.
The minister emphasized that any work that can be completed immediately should be done without delay. The visit included several locations in Ariana, such as Wadi Al-Khayat, Al-Bararaja 1, Jaafar, and Noor Jaafar, as well as Al-Jawhara Street, where work has begun. Zwari inspected progress on stormwater drainage infrastructure and road preparation.
Zwari highlighted the need to continue and accelerate field interventions to ensure the completed infrastructure and roads are operational as soon as possible. The minister's visit reflects the government's commitment to addressing flood protection concerns in Ariana and mitigating the impact of rainfall on local communities.
