Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti led the annual coordination meeting of Arab foreign ministers in New York on September 21. The meeting was held under Tunisia's chairmanship of the Arab League's ministerial council. According to a statement from the Tunisian Foreign Ministry, Nafti stressed the need for continued consultation among Arab states on regional issues, particularly the Palestinian question.
Nafti reiterated Tunisia's unwavering support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including the establishment of an independent state with full sovereignty over its territories and Jerusalem as its capital. He also emphasized the importance of reviving the Arab initiative on regional and international issues and working towards peaceful and lasting solutions that respect Arab states' sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Tunisian Foreign Minister urged Arab states to enhance their collective engagement in implementing adopted decisions, strategies, and initiatives. He also called for developing mechanisms to convert these into concrete programs and projects, enabling the Arab group to address pressing issues effectively and responsibly.
Nafti emphasized Tunisia's commitment to international law, the UN and Arab League charters, and its rejection of any aggression against Arab states or threats to their security and resources. He advocated for dialogue and diplomacy as the sole means of resolving conflicts and disputes.
Prior to the meeting, Nafti held a consultative meeting with Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmi. They reviewed the outcomes of the 166th session of the Arab League ministerial council, held under Tunisia's chairmanship on September 7. The meeting also touched on regional and international issues, including the Palestinian question.
Fahmi noted the success of the second edition of the AI Summit 2026, organized by the Arab Organization for Communication and Information Technologies in cooperation with the Tunisian Ministry of Communication Technologies. The two parties also discussed ways to enhance regional security and stability and address challenges posed by the evolving regional landscape.
Nafti expressed Tunisia's commitment to contributing to the development of Arab collective action and enhancing its effectiveness through continuous consultation and coordination with Arab states and the Arab League Secretariat. He stressed the importance of uniting the Arab stance to defend Arab issues and national security, particularly the just Palestinian cause.
