On November 3-4, 2026, Heikal Hachlaf, head of the office of the Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Maritime Fishing, conducted a working visit to Medenine Governorate. The trip aimed to monitor developmental programs and projects, as well as address concerns of professionals in various production sectors. Hachlaf attended the third international conference on the camel milk value chain in Djerba, organized by the Laboratory of Cattle and Wildlife Breeding at the Institute of Arid Regions.

The conference, themed "Towards Innovation and Sustainability," brought together over 200 participants from around 20 countries and various continents. The event provided a platform for experts to share knowledge, showcase research findings, and exchange experiences in camel breeding and camel milk production. Hachlaf emphasized the importance of developing the camel sector and promoting the valorization of its products, particularly camel milk, as a promising driver of economic and social development in arid and desert regions.

On the same day, Hachlaf visited the Sidi Shmakh fishing port, where he inspected the activities of the port and its various components, including olive oil production. He listened to the concerns of workers, praised their efforts, and stressed the need to promote a culture of hard work and diligence. The official also visited a nearby area where a flock of sheep was being tagged as part of the national program to provide sacrificial animals for Eid al-Adha in 2027.

The visit allowed Hachlaf to monitor the program's progress, assess preparations for providing sacrificial animals, and address concerns raised by breeders. On November 4, 2026, Hachlaf and Medenine Governor Walid Taboubi inaugurated a workshop on the sustainable management and protection of the transboundary groundwater reservoir in Jafara. The event, organized in collaboration with international organizations, aimed to promote cooperation and coordination in managing shared groundwater resources.

The workshop brought together stakeholders to share experiences and expertise on protecting and preserving groundwater resources in the face of increasing challenges related to water scarcity, climate change, and pressure on water tables. As part of his visit, Hachlaf also inspected an olive oil production facility in Djerba, where he observed the various stages of olive oil production and packaging.

The facility's visit highlighted the importance of investing in the food industry and promoting the valorization of agricultural products, which can contribute to increasing their added value and improving their quality and competitiveness. Hachlaf also visited the Medenine fish market project, where he assessed the progress of the project and listened to concerns raised by fishermen and professionals.

These activities and visits reflect the Ministry of Agriculture's commitment to monitoring the implementation of its programs and projects, promoting research and innovation, and preserving natural resources. The efforts aim to support sustainable development and food security in Tunisia.
