Tunisia's tax authority, under the Ministry of Finance, reported a revenue of 4470.9 million dinars until September 2026. This represents a 2.3% increase compared to 4372.2 million dinars collected during the same period in 2025. The data was presented by Finance Minister, Mechka Salama Khaldi, during a joint session of the Finance Committee of the Assembly of People's Representatives and the National Council of Regions and Districts.

The increase in revenue is attributed to enhanced tax monitoring and control measures. According to Minister Khaldi, the number of tax interventions that led to settlements reached 113,884. This marks a 2.9% increase from 110,679 interventions recorded during the same period in 2025. The surge is largely due to intensified audit operations and interventions by research teams aimed at combating tax evasion.

The Tunisian tax authority has been actively engaged in field surveys to expand the base of taxpayers and update data related to their activities. As part of these efforts, 1101 unregistered taxpayers were identified through surveys conducted until September 2026. The goal is to integrate undeclared activities into the organized sector, thereby increasing the state's own resources.

Minister Khaldi emphasized the importance of developing tax monitoring mechanisms and improving their effectiveness. The focus is on detecting evasion cases and regularizing tax situations, which contributes to expanding the base of taxpayers and enhancing the collection of state's own resources.

The improvement in tax collection is a key component of Tunisia's strategy to boost its financial resources. The government aims to optimize tax revenues through better monitoring and control of tax obligations. This approach is expected to support the country's budget and finance its development projects.

The discussions around the 2027 financial bill highlight the government's efforts to address fiscal challenges. By enhancing tax collection and combating evasion, Tunisia seeks to improve its fiscal balance and ensure sustainable economic growth. The Finance Minister's presentation underscores the commitment to implementing effective tax policies.

Moving forward, the Tunisian tax authority is likely to continue its efforts in strengthening tax compliance. With a focus on technology and data analysis, the authority aims to identify and address tax evasion more effectively. This proactive approach is expected to contribute to a more equitable and efficient tax system.
