The Tunisian public transport sector is expected to see a significant increase in its operational fleet by December 2026. According to Minister of Transport Rachid Amri, the country's public transport park, ready for exploitation, will reach 3312 buses by then, up from 2416 buses in 2025. This development was announced during a joint session between the Assembly of People's Representatives and the National Council of Regions and Districts.

The increase in the public transport fleet is part of the government's efforts to improve the availability and quality of transport services in Tunisia. The Minister of Transport explained that this growth concerns all public enterprises active in the land transport sector. The goal is to enhance the capacity of transport companies to provide collective transport services and meet the mobility needs of different regions in the country.

The regional transport companies are expected to play a significant role in this expansion. According to Minister Amri, the operational fleet of these companies will increase to 2618 buses, up from 1896 buses in 2025. This represents a substantial increase in the number of buses available to serve various regions across Tunisia.

The Société des Transports de Tunis (TRANSTU), which operates in the capital city, is also expected to see an increase in its fleet. The number of buses ready for exploitation is set to rise to 851, up from 520 in 2025. This development aims to improve the quality and availability of transport services in Tunis.

Another key player in the sector, the Société Nationale de Transport Interurbain (SNTRI), will also see an increase in its fleet. The Minister of Transport announced that the company's park will reach 165 buses, up from 111 buses in the previous year. This growth will help enhance the company's ability to provide interurban transport services.

These developments are part of the government's efforts to improve the public transport sector in Tunisia. The Ministry of Transport's budget project for 2027 includes plans to increase the public transport fleet and enhance the quality of services. The goal is to provide better mobility options for citizens and support economic development.

The increase in the public transport fleet is expected to have a positive impact on the daily lives of Tunisian citizens. With more buses available, people will have better access to employment, education, and healthcare opportunities. The government's investment in the public transport sector is seen as a key step towards improving the overall quality of life in Tunisia.
