Tunisia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Ali Nafti, has called on Arab states to regain their proactive spirit in addressing various regional and international issues. Nafti made these remarks while chairing the annual coordination meeting of Arab foreign ministers in New York, as part of Tunisia's presidency of the Arab League Council.
Nafti highlighted the importance of continued consultation and coordination among Arab states on emerging regional issues, particularly the Palestinian cause. He stressed the need for collective engagement in implementing Arab decisions, strategies, and initiatives, and developing mechanisms to translate them into concrete programs and projects. This, he believes, will enable the Arab group to address critical issues effectively and responsibly.
The Tunisian minister reaffirmed his country's unwavering support for the Palestinian people's legitimate and inalienable rights, including the establishment of an independent state with full sovereignty over its national territory, with Jerusalem as its capital. He also emphasized Tunisia's commitment to international law, the UN Charter, and the Arab League's charter, and its rejection of any aggression against Arab states or threats to their security and resources.
Nafti called for promoting dialogue and diplomacy to resolve conflicts and disputes, and for strengthening the role of the United Nations as a guarantor of international legitimacy, human rights, and respect for state sovereignty. He also urged Arab states to work together to address the challenges facing the region, and to develop a unified Arab position on critical issues.
The Arab League's Secretary-General praised the success of the second edition of the AI Summit, organized by the Arab Organization for Communication and Information Technologies in cooperation with the Tunisian Ministry of Communication Technologies. The meeting also discussed various regional and international issues, and ways to enhance security and stability in the Arab region.
Nafti expressed Tunisia's commitment to continuing its contribution to the development of the Arab League's joint work and enhancing its effectiveness, in order to unify Arab positions on critical issues facing the region. He also emphasized the importance of collective action to address the challenges posed by the changing regional landscape.
The meeting comes as Tunisia continues to play an active role in regional and international diplomacy, with Nafti holding talks with his Moldovan counterpart on cooperation between the two countries, and participating in a meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation's contact group on European Muslims.
