The Tunisian Solidarity Bank's Kasarin branch has started providing seasonal loans to small sheep breeders to help them purchase fodder for the current agricultural season. This initiative aims to support livestock breeders and contribute to the availability of sacrificial animals for the 2027 Eid al-Adha celebrations. According to the bank's Kasarin branch head, Zine El Salhi, the loans are part of a program that seeks to assist small breeders.
The loans are available to breeders with a flock of no more than 50 female sheep, with a financing value of 200 dinars per head. This translates to a maximum loan of 10,000 dinars, based on a technical study conducted by the Livestock Breeding Office in coordination with the Regional Agricultural Development Commission. El Salhi explained that the bank's intervention is part of an agreement to implement a seasonal loan program.
The program is designed to support small breeders by providing them with the necessary financing to purchase fodder and improve their livestock. The loan application process involves submitting a request to the Tunisian Solidarity Bank's Kasarin branch, along with a national identity card and proof of ownership of a sheep flock. The application is then forwarded to the Regional Agricultural Development Commission for a technical study.
The study determines the breeder's needs, and the loan is disbursed after the necessary procedures are completed. This initiative is part of a broader national program launched by the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Maritime Fishing to ensure the availability of sacrificial animals for the 2027 Eid al-Adha celebrations.
The program aims to provide sufficient sacrificial animals at reasonable prices, taking into account the purchasing power of citizens. It also seeks to reduce the involvement of intermediaries and improve the organization of supply chains. The program offers seasonal loans, financial and technical advantages to livestock breeders.
The initiative is expected to have a positive impact on the livestock sector in Tunisia, particularly in the Kasarin region. The program's success will depend on the participation of small breeders and the effectiveness of the loan disbursement process.
The Tunisian authorities are working to promote the program through information days, working sessions, and awareness campaigns in various regions of the country. The goal is to encourage farmers to participate in the program and take advantage of the available financing opportunities.
