The 4th International Energy Transition Salon (SITE 2026) concluded on October 3, 2026, in Tunis, Tunisia. The event, organized by the National Energy Chamber, was held under the supervision of the Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Energy. It brought together around 60 specialized companies from Tunisia and abroad, along with representatives from the administration, private sector, financial institutions, investors, and experts. The two-day event focused on accelerating the energy transition, enhancing energy security, and supporting investment and competitiveness.
The forum's closing statement, published by the National Energy Chamber, outlined eight key recommendations. These recommendations aim to accelerate the implementation of energy transition projects, enhance the legislative framework, and simplify investment procedures. The recommendations also focus on promoting the use of renewable energy, improving energy efficiency, and developing energy storage solutions. The proposals will be submitted to the executive and legislative authorities for consideration.
One of the primary recommendations is to accelerate the implementation of energy transition projects, with a goal of achieving national targets by 2030. The participants also suggested reviewing the legislative framework governing the production of electricity from renewable sources, particularly the 2015 law. This review aims to increase the ceiling for self-production of electricity, develop mechanisms for selling excess energy to the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company, and stimulate private sector investment.
The forum also recommended simplifying and digitizing investment procedures, reducing the number of licenses and approvals required from various ministries and structures. Additionally, the participants proposed establishing a one-stop shop for energy that brings together different administrations and structures, streamlining the study of files, and facilitating project implementation and investments.
Another key recommendation is to promote the use of solar energy and reduce the cost of equipment. The participants suggested launching a "Energy Citizenship" program to enable one million Tunisian families to benefit from solar energy, with easy financing mechanisms to ensure access for low- and middle-income households. They also recommended enhancing and expanding the Sol'Économique and Sol'Social programs.
The forum emphasized the importance of updating the electrical grid and developing energy storage solutions. The participants stressed the need to modernize and digitize the electrical grid, develop control and monitoring systems, and smart meters to enhance its capacity to absorb renewable energies. They also recommended accelerating the development of energy storage solutions, particularly batteries and pumped storage.
The recommendations also focus on financing investments, attracting capital, and promoting green hydrogen. The participants suggested developing green financing mechanisms, guarantees, and hedging tools, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises. They also proposed reforming and strengthening the Energy Transition Fund and developing incentives and grants for solar energy and storage projects.
