A preparatory meeting was held at the Banzart Governorate office on October 1 to organize the sixth edition of the "Green Steps" event, a sports and awareness initiative aimed at promoting organ donation. The event is scheduled to take place on October 18, coinciding with the International and National Day for Organ Donation Awareness. The initiative is led by the National Center for Organ Transplantation, in collaboration with the Ministries of Health, Youth, Sports, and National Defense.

The meeting was attended by Banzart Governor Salem Ben Yaakoub, who emphasized the importance of providing all necessary conditions to ensure the success of the event. The event aims to raise awareness among Tunisians about the importance of organ donation and address various questions and concerns related to the topic. The governor also called for mobilizing efforts to coordinate with all relevant parties, including official and institutional entities, associations, and community groups.

The event will feature two main activities: a walking race and a cycling competition. The organizing committee, comprising representatives from the health and sports sectors, has chosen a location near the recreational port as the starting point and venue for the event. A sports and awareness village will be set up to provide information and promote organ donation.

According to Dr. Salma Mshirq, Director of Health in Banzart, and Riadh Aziz, Regional Delegate for Youth and Sports in Banzart, the event aims to promote a culture of organ donation and encourage people to register as donors. They highlighted that one donor can save up to five lives and emphasized the importance of raising awareness about organ donation.

The event is part of the national efforts to promote organ donation and transplantation. Tunisia has made significant progress in this field, with the National Center for Organ Transplantation working to coordinate donations and transplants. The center has reported an increase in organ donations in recent years, but there is still a need to raise awareness and encourage more people to register as donors.

The "Green Steps" event is also seen as an opportunity to promote healthy lifestyles and encourage physical activity. The walking and cycling activities will help raise awareness about the importance of exercise and healthy living, while also promoting organ donation.

The event will take place amidst celebrations of the 63rd anniversary of Tunisia's independence. The organizers hope that the event will not only promote organ donation but also contribute to a broader cultural shift towards healthy living and community engagement.
