Tunisia's Ministry of Tourism has proposed a budget of 176.8 million dinars for 2027, representing a 9.3% increase from the 161.7 million dinars allocated for 2026. This information was revealed by Minister of Tourism, Sufian Tka, during a joint hearing session of the Tourism, Culture, Services, and Traditional Industries Committee, and the Investment and International Cooperation Committee of the National Council of Regions and Districts.
The proposed budget for 2027 is distributed across various sectors, including rental and operating expenses, interventions, and investments. Rental expenses are set to rise from 68.43 million dinars in 2026 to 75.05 million dinars in 2027, marking a 9.7% increase. This increase is attributed to the rise in salaries of state employees, local authorities, and public administrative institutions for the years 2026, 2027, and 2028.
Operating expenses are also expected to increase by 2.9% to reach 16.64 million dinars, up from 16.17 million dinars in 2026. Minister Tka stated that the ministry has worked to rationalize these expenses by controlling the cost of supplies, equipment, and energy consumption, limiting the growth to less than 3%. Intervention expenses are programmed at 70.47 million dinars.
The investment budget has seen a significant increase, rising from 5.96 million dinars in 2026 to 14.6 million dinars in 2027, representing a 145% increase. Investment projects include the completion of restoration and maintenance works at the Sidi Bou Said leisure port, and the implementation of a study and maintenance works at the Marina Monastir leisure port.
A total of 13 million dinars has been allocated for the Sidi Bou Said project, while 13.4 million dinars have been earmarked for the Marina Monastir project, which aims to repair damage caused by storms on January 19 and 20, 2026. An additional 300,000 dinars have been allocated to develop an IT application aimed at streamlining administrative procedures related to maritime navigation.
The 2027 tourism program includes two sub-programs, three strategic objectives, seven performance indicators, six activities, three operational units, and four public actors. The strategic objectives focus on diversifying the tourism offer and improving service quality, stimulating demand for the Tunisian destination, and enhancing the competitiveness of traditional industry products.
The program aims to improve the tourism sector's performance and contribute to the country's economic growth. With a focus on diversifying the tourism offer and improving service quality, the ministry aims to attract more tourists and increase revenue.
