The head of Tunisia's Supreme Body for Administrative and Financial Control, Imad Al-Hazqi, led a Tunisian delegation at the 6th Conference of States Parties to the Arab Convention against Corruption, held in Doha from September 21 to 23, 2026. During the conference, Al-Hazqi emphasized Tunisia's commitment to combating corruption.
According to Al-Hazqi, Tunisia's efforts to combat corruption involve continuous work to enhance law enforcement and consolidate values and principles of integrity in both the public and private sectors. This is achieved through the review of several legislative and regulatory texts, simplification of administrative procedures and paths, digitalization of public services, and development of information systems in the public sector.
The development of information systems and their interconnection aim to reduce the scope for human intervention, thereby minimizing opportunities for corruption. Al-Hazqi also highlighted the importance of supporting oversight structures, activating accountability and prosecution mechanisms at all levels of the state, and eliminating the culture of impunity by taking action against those involved in corruption cases.
In addition to these efforts, Al-Hazqi stressed the need for effective cooperation between Arab states and regional organizations through the exchange of experiences and successful practices in the implementation of the Arab Convention against Corruption. He also emphasized the importance of promoting joint Arab efforts to encourage the international community to develop effective cooperation mechanisms in combating corruption.
The implementation of all provisions of the United Nations Convention against Corruption, particularly the commitment to facilitating procedures for the recovery of stolen assets, was also highlighted as a key area of focus. On the sidelines of the conference, Al-Hazqi held bilateral talks with several Arab counterparts, focusing on ways to support bilateral and Arab cooperation in preventing corruption and addressing its various forms.
The talks also addressed the challenges and opportunities presented by modern digital technologies and artificial intelligence.
