Tunisia's External Investment Promotion Agency office in Madrid, in collaboration with the Tunisian Embassy in Spain, conducted an exploratory mission to the regions of Murcia and Alicante on September 14-15. The mission aimed to promote Tunisia's investment opportunities and explore partnership possibilities with Spanish companies operating in the food industry. This effort is part of the agency's endeavors to attract new foreign investments and strengthen partnerships between Tunisian and international companies.
The mission, which targeted two of Spain's prominent agricultural and food industry hubs, included meetings with economic officials and industrial company representatives, as well as on-site visits to production units. In Alicante, the agency's office delegation met with the Chamber of Commerce president and officials to discuss organizing joint activities to promote investment and partnership opportunities in Tunisia for local economic institutions.
The mission's program included working meetings with leading Spanish company officials and visits to industrial units to explore possibilities for establishing partnerships and developing joint ventures between Tunisia and the targeted Spanish regions. The delegation visited Sanchis Mira SA, a industrial group based in Alicante, which is a major player in Spain's food industry and distribution sector. The visit provided an opportunity to present Tunisia's industrial fabric and discuss cooperation and partnership opportunities with the group.
The mission also covered the Murcia region, where the delegation met with officials from Conservas El Raal, a company specializing in processing and preparing plant-based products, with over 85% of its production exported to European and American markets. During the meeting, a presentation was made on Tunisia's investment opportunities, and the company's general manager expressed interest in Tunisia's agricultural input capabilities.
Discussions focused on Tunisia's strategic location, proximity to European markets, and competitive production costs, which can contribute to enhancing the Spanish company's ability to develop its activities and ensure its sustainability. The mission highlighted the importance of the targeted markets, with Murcia being one of Europe's leading agricultural regions, hosting a strong processing industry that accounts for over 11% of the region's GDP and provides around 92,000 jobs.
The Alicante province is characterized by a high-value-added industrial fabric, comprising over 2,300 companies operating in the food industry, with exports valued at approximately €2.33 billion. The mission demonstrated Tunisia's potential to establish partnerships with Spanish companies, particularly in the food industry, and to benefit from the country's competitive advantages.
The successful mission is expected to lead to increased cooperation and investment between Tunisia and Spain, with potential benefits for both economies. The External Investment Promotion Agency's efforts to promote Tunisia's investment opportunities and partnerships with international companies are crucial for the country's economic development and growth.
