The International Marine Products Salon kicked off in Vigo, Spain, with Tunisia participating to enhance the presence of its national products in international markets, particularly in Spain. The Spanish market is the second-largest destination for Tunisian marine products and aquaculture exports. The Tunisian participation aims to promote the quality and diversity of Tunisian products and strengthen trade relations with international buyers.
The Tunisian National Joint Professional Association for Marine Products is participating in the event, which runs until October 8, with a 50-square-meter stand featuring four national institutions that export marine products and engage in aquaculture. The Tunisian exhibit showcases a variety of marine products, including shrimp, octopus, squid, frozen fish, and high-value-added products like blue crab and its derivatives.
The participation seeks to introduce the quality and diversity of Tunisian products, enhance their presence in the Spanish market, and develop trade relations with international buyers and importers. It also aims to explore new export, partnership, and investment opportunities. This event provides an opportunity to support processed and high-value-added products and introduce Tunisian aquaculture products.
For the first time, a Tunisian institution specializing in fish farming, marketing, and export is participating, alongside three institutions that export frozen marine products. This reflects the diversity of Tunisian institutions' activities and the evolution of aquaculture products destined for external markets.
The Tunisian participation is significant, given the importance of the marine fishing sector within the food export system. In the first seven months of 2026, Tunisian marine product exports reached 18.4 thousand tons, valued at 422.3 million dinars. Despite an 4.8% decline in export value compared to the same period in 2025, the trade balance for marine products showed a surplus of 92.6 million dinars.
Tunisian products are exported to 38 markets, with Italy accounting for 34% of exports, followed by Spain at 12%, and Libya at 11%. The current participation provides an opportunity for Tunisian institutions to explore new markets and strengthen existing trade relations.
The event allows for the promotion of Tunisian products and provides a platform for institutions to network with international buyers and importers. The participation also highlights the potential for growth and development in the Tunisian marine products sector.
