Tunisia is participating in the Euro-Mediterranean Water Forum, held in Rome from September 29 to October 2, 2026. The country's delegation is led by the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Maritime Fishing. This participation is supported by the German International Cooperation Agency in Tunisia, within the framework of the "Support for Sustainable Water Governance in Tunisia" (REGLEAU) project.
The forum aims to promote tools and knowledge to anticipate climate risks and improve decision-making in the water sector. Tunisia's participation is crucial, given the increasing frequency of extreme hydro-climatic events and their impact on water resources in the region. The Tunisian delegation organized a side event, "From Digital Early Warning Systems to Climate Services for Water," to highlight the importance of developing digital early warning systems and enhancing climate services.
The side event focused on transforming scientific data and knowledge into accurate and effective information to support proactive decision-making and improve the resilience of water resources. The "Support for Sustainable Water Governance in Tunisia" project is a continuation of the "Support for Water Sector Reforms in Tunisia" (A-RESET) project. The new project has a budget of 5.5 million euros and will run for three years.
The REGLEAU project primarily focuses on developing a composite system for water systems in Tunisia, supporting digital decision-making in the water sector, and enhancing institutional capacities for participatory and sustainable water resource management. The project also aims to establish integrated water management examples in several governorates, aligning with Tunisia's 2050 water strategy.
The Euro-Mediterranean Water Forum brings together stakeholders from the region to discuss water-related challenges and opportunities.
