In a significant boost to Tunisia's economy, the "Baja 2" factory, owned by German company Kromberg & Schubert, was inaugurated in the industrial zone of Baja. The factory, built on a 60,000 square meter site, represents an investment of over 270 million dinars, including construction and equipment costs. The new facility is expected to create around 7,500 jobs by 2029, bringing the total workforce of the company's two factories in Baga to approximately 14,700.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by several high-ranking officials, including the head of the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy's office, Afaf Chachai Tayar, Baga Governor Ahmed Ben Kharat, German Ambassador to Tunisia Elisabeth Wulbars, and the head of the Tunisian Union of Industry, Trade and Traditional Industries, Samir Majoul. The event marked a significant milestone in Tunisia's efforts to attract foreign investment and promote economic growth.

According to Wissam Badri, General Manager of Kromberg & Schubert's Baga factory, "Baja 2" is currently the largest factory in Tunisia and one of the largest in the company's global network, spanning multiple continents. The new facility will enable the company to meet growing demand from its clients and further establish Tunisia as a hub for automotive manufacturing.

The "Baja 2" factory currently employs around 2,600 workers, with plans to increase the workforce to 3,500 by 2027 and 6,000 by 2028. The company expects to complete its investment in the factory with a total cost of approximately 300 million dinars. This significant investment is expected to have a positive impact on Tunisia's economy and reinforce the country's position as a major player in the automotive industry.

Afaf Chachai Tayar emphasized that the expansion of Kromberg & Schubert's operations in Tunisia is a testament to the country's ability to attract and retain foreign investment. She highlighted that Tunisia is home to over 300 companies operating in the automotive sector, employing more than 120,000 workers. Tayar stressed the importance of encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship in the sector to maintain Tunisia's competitiveness.

Fathi Sahlawi, General Manager of Industrial Industries at the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy, noted that Tunisia aims to become a global hub for electronic industries and automotive component manufacturing. He emphasized that the expansion of Kromberg & Schubert's operations will support this goal and reinforce Tunisia's position in the industry.

German Ambassador to Tunisia Elisabeth Wulbars praised the strong cooperation between Tunisia and Germany, highlighting that around 300 German companies are currently operating in Tunisia, employing approximately 100,000 people. The ambassador's comments underscored the significance of the "Baja 2" factory as a symbol of successful bilateral cooperation and a major driver of economic growth in Tunisia.
