The Tunisian government has announced new price reductions on several food products, set to take effect from this weekend. According to Ramzi Trabelsi, director of the National Observatory of Supply and Prices (ONAP), the reductions will apply to various items, including cheese and vegetable oils. This move follows previous price cuts on certain products such as fish, poultry, and imported fruits. The ONAP is a department within the Ministry of Trade.

The new price reductions will specifically apply to portioned cheeses of 8 and 16 units, with price drops ranging from 800 to 1,800 millimes. Additionally, several types of vegetable oils packaged in formats ranging from 1.8 to 5 liters will see price reductions between 3,700 and 7,000 millimes. However, corn and sunflower oils are not included in this measure. The new prices will be implemented in large commercial areas this weekend and will gradually be extended to other formal sales outlets.

Ramzi Trabelsi made the announcement during an appearance on the Sbeh Ennes program. He stated that the reductions aim to alleviate the financial burden on consumers. The Ministry of Trade has been working to stabilize prices and ensure the availability of essential goods. Tunisia has been experiencing fluctuations in food prices due to various market and economic factors.

In addition to the price reductions, the ONAP will release additional quantities of imported rice in the coming days to meet strong consumer demand. This move is expected to help stabilize the rice market and prevent shortages. The Tunisian government has been working to manage the supply and demand of essential goods.

Trabelsi also addressed the recent surge in shrimp prices, stating that they are not fixed by the Ministry of Trade but are influenced by market fluctuations in supply and demand. He noted that shrimp prices had initially dropped due to high supply but rose again with increased demand. Despite this, current prices remain lower than usual.

The price reductions and increased availability of imported rice are part of the government's efforts to control inflation and support consumers. The measures are expected to benefit households by reducing their expenses on essential goods. Further updates on the implementation and impact of these measures are anticipated.

The Tunisian government continues to work on stabilizing the food market and managing prices. The Ministry of Trade and the ONAP are closely monitoring the situation to ensure the availability and affordability of essential goods. Consumers are expected to benefit from these new price reductions and increased supplies of key products.
