The National Institute of Large-Scale Agriculture in Tunisia will organize a national symposium on October 21-22, 2026, to discuss the impact of climate change on food security. The event will take place in the region of Kram and will be held under the supervision of the Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Maritime Fishing, Azzedine Ben Cheikh. The symposium aims to present the results of field experiments and scientific research in the field of large-scale agriculture.

The symposium will bring together researchers, experts in the agricultural field, representatives of public institutions, higher education institutions, and international organizations. The goal is to strengthen the link between scientific research and practical application and to employ research results in developing agricultural practices. The second day of the symposium will be dedicated to organizing a national dialogue on climate change and food security.

The initiative is part of the efforts to anticipate climate risks and develop the capacity of large-scale agriculture to withstand the challenges associated with climate change, fluctuations in rainfall, and water scarcity. The symposium also aims to contribute to the development of a shared vision to enhance the resilience and sustainability of large-scale agricultural systems in Tunisia.

Tunisia is facing increasing challenges in the field of food and water security, which requires the development of crop varieties that are more resistant to drought and heat, improved water management, and the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices. Large-scale agriculture, particularly cereals, is a strategic sector in Tunisia, and enhancing its ability to adapt to climate change is crucial to supporting national food security.

The symposium will focus on the impact of climate change on food security and the development of solutions to address these challenges. The event will also provide an opportunity for participants to exchange experiences and expertise on practical solutions to adapt to climate change and enhance water and food security.

The National Institute of Large-Scale Agriculture is organizing the symposium in collaboration with the Research and Higher Education Institution in Agriculture and several national institutions and international partners. The event is expected to contribute to the development of a national strategy to enhance the resilience of large-scale agriculture to climate change.

The outcomes of the symposium are expected to enhance coordination among various stakeholders in the agricultural sector and to direct scientific research towards practical solutions that support more resilient and sustainable agriculture and enhance food security in Tunisia in the long term.
