On Tuesday, October 13, the Tunisian capital hosted a ceremony to distribute certificates of participation in a training program on circular economy, implemented under the Qualitative Employment Growth Program (CQE). The event was attended by several high-ranking officials, including the Head of the Prime Minister's Office, Afaf Chachai El Tayari, and representatives from the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ) and the Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Energy.
The program aims to modernize the industrial system and transition towards a green economy that can address the challenges faced by industrial enterprises, aligning with the country's national industry and renewal strategy. The initiative seeks to enhance the competitiveness of enterprises, improve their performance, and develop their products and services by optimizing resource management and reducing the environmental impact of production activities.
Since its launch in 2022, the program has supported over 570 industrial enterprises in improving their innovation and technological development capabilities, environmental performance, and resilience to market fluctuations. Additionally, more than 250 enterprises have been assisted in implementing innovative projects, with 40 projects receiving funding from the "COINNOV" fund established under the Qualitative Employment Growth Project.
The program has enabled 170 projects to improve the environmental performance and sustainability of enterprises. This support includes implementing energy efficiency systems according to international standards, conducting life cycle analysis, adopting eco-design, calculating carbon footprints, and establishing environmental management systems. The program has also helped small and medium-sized enterprises adopt science-based targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The initiative has contributed to the development of a group of experts in various fields, including carbon footprint calculation and circular economy. New services have been created to support industrial enterprises, and over 60 new services have been launched for the benefit of these enterprises. The Qualitative Employment Growth Project is implemented in partnership between the Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Energy, and the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ), with joint funding from the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
The Head of the Prime Minister's Office emphasized the importance of this program in enhancing the competitiveness of enterprises and supporting their growth while reducing their environmental impact. The program's achievements demonstrate its potential to contribute to Tunisia's sustainable development and job creation efforts.
The ceremony highlights the ongoing efforts of the Tunisian government and its international partners to promote sustainable development, improve the business environment, and support the growth of a green economy in the country.
