US President Donald Trump has announced the formation of a new task force focused on artificial intelligence, dubbed "The Intelligence Advanced Force". The task force will be led by US National Intelligence Director, Jay Clayton. According to Trump, the new force aims to guarantee the US remains at the forefront of the technology development race while coordinating federal government participation with various stakeholders in the artificial intelligence sector.

The task force will oversee cooperation between the federal government, consumers, public interest groups, religious organizations, vital infrastructure operators, and technology companies operating in the "super intelligence" field. The new formation, in addition to Clayton, includes Federal Trade Commission Chairman, Andrew Ferguson, Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, Emile Michael, and Office of Management and Budget Director, Scott Kobor.

The task force is set to report directly to Trump and White House Chief of Staff, Susie Wiles. This development comes after Trump signed an executive order on September 29, directing US government agencies to use the terms "SI" and "super intelligence" instead of "artificial intelligence" in official communications, websites, and reports.

The executive order has sparked criticism from experts, who argue that the term "super intelligence" implies a more advanced level of technology and may cause confusion. Some technology leaders, including Elon Musk, have started using the new term, with Musk announcing plans to rename SpaceX's artificial intelligence platform to SpaceXSI.

The formation of the task force comes amid growing calls for stricter controls on the artificial intelligence sector, with industry leaders, including executives from OpenAI and Anthropic, advocating for more regulation. OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman, has emphasized the benefits of artificial intelligence, while calling for the technology to remain accessible to the public.

Meanwhile, safety concerns related to artificial intelligence have raised alarm within the sector, with some experts expressing concerns about the rapid deployment of AI products without adequate safeguards. This has led to increased scrutiny of OpenAI's models, following several cybersecurity incidents linked to its technology.

Trump's administration has prioritized maintaining the US position in the global AI race, amid concerns about technology security, safety, and its impact on the economy, defense, and critical infrastructure. The new task force is expected to play a key role in shaping US policy on artificial intelligence.
