Nigerian troops under Operation Fansan Yamma have successfully rescued seven kidnapped individuals in Katsina State and recovered a substantial number of stolen cattle in Sokoto State. The rescue operation took place on the Daye–Malumfashi Road in Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State. This followed a distress call received on September 21, 2026, regarding an attack on a commercial vehicle traveling from Kaduna to Katsina.
The kidnapped victims, comprising six female students from the Federal University, Dutsin-Ma, and one male commercial driver, were rescued unharmed. Upon rescue, they were screened for security purposes, received medical attention, and were subsequently handed over to the relevant authorities. These authorities will facilitate their reunification with their families and school authorities. The prompt response by the troops led to the safe release of the hostages.

They recovered a large number of cattle allegedly stolen from residents of Asarara Kaura community in Kebbe Local Government Area. The operation was based on credible intelligence that armed terrorists had entered the community, terrorizing residents and stealing livestock.
Acting on the intelligence, the troops positioned themselves to block the terrorists from escaping with the stolen cattle. Along the Tambuwal–Gadaichi–Gummi Road, they intercepted the fleeing attackers, leading to a gun battle. The troops overpowered the attackers through superior firepower and tactical action, causing them to flee into nearby bushes, with some reportedly suffering gunshot wounds.
The successful intervention in Sokoto State brought relief and jubilation to the residents of the Asarara Kaura community and surrounding areas. The community members applauded the troops for their bravery and prompt response in safeguarding their lives and livelihood. The recovered cattle are currently being kept in military custody while arrangements are being made to return them to their rightful owners.
