Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have successfully rescued 23 kidnapped victims and arrested four suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group in Sokoto State. The operations were conducted by Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, in various local government areas. The efforts aimed to curb terrorist activities and secure the region. The first operation took place on Sunday in response to an attack on Sabon Gari in Wurno Local Government Area. Terrorists invaded the community, opened fire, and forced residents to flee. Troops quickly responded, engaged the terrorists, and forced them to withdraw from the area. During the operation, six kidnapped victims were rescued, and one civilian who sustained a gunshot wound was evacuated to a medical facility for treatment.
In Sabon Birni Local Government Area, troops responded to intelligence suggesting that terrorists were attempting to cross the Sabon Birni-Takatsaba Road around Chabe Biyu. An ambush was set up along the expected route, and the troops engaged the terrorists with firepower, forcing them to flee. This operation resulted in the rescue of 17 kidnapped civilians. One of the rescued victims, who sustained a fracture, was evacuated to the General Hospital, Isa, for medical attention.
Another operation was conducted in Illela Local Government Area, where troops arrested four suspected members of the Lakurawa group. The suspects were allegedly moving rustled cattle from Sarma Village towards Illela. Six cows were recovered from the suspects, and they were taken into military custody for further investigation. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the group.
The troops also foiled terrorist attacks in Wurno, Sabon Birni, and Isa Local Government Areas. These areas have been prone to terrorist activities, and the troops' swift actions prevented further attacks. The military's efforts aim to ensure the safety and security of the local communities.
The rescued victims and recovered livestock are currently in military custody. The military is working to ensure that the rescued victims receive proper care and support. The arrested suspects will face investigation and prosecution according to the law.
