In a recent scientific event organized by the City of Sciences in Tunis, Tunisian doctors emphasized that breast cancer treatment has evolved to consider individual cases, focusing on tumor characteristics, stage, and spread. This approach allows for personalized treatment plans, which may include surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, or targeted therapies. The goal is to provide effective treatment while improving patients' quality of life.
Dr. Hanane Bouaziz, a professor of oncology surgery at the Salah Azouz Institute, noted significant advancements in breast cancer treatment and surgery in recent years. Many of these techniques are available at the institute and are performed by specialized doctors. She highlighted that breast cancer surgery now considers not only the medical aspect but also the psychological and aesthetic aspects, enabling patients to regain their confidence and self-image after treatment.
The event was part of the national "Pink October" campaign, which aims to raise awareness about breast cancer and promote early detection. Dr. Bouaziz stressed that the campaign has contributed significantly to raising awareness about the importance of early detection. However, she emphasized that the current challenge is to translate this awareness into regular health behavior, encouraging people to undergo necessary check-ups, including mammography, as recommended by medical guidelines.
Dr. Inas Ben Hassan Zekrawi, a specialist in medical imaging, emphasized that while significant progress has been made in breast cancer treatment, prevention and early detection remain crucial. She noted that in Tunisia, breast cancer cases are being diagnosed in women under 35 years old, highlighting the importance of regular check-ups and screenings according to medical recommendations.
The event also highlighted the availability of free screening services for breast cancer in various regions and governorates across Tunisia. Dr. Najlaa Rachid, head of the Tunis Regional Family and Human Settlements Delegation, encouraged people to take advantage of these services and not wait for symptoms to appear.
The "Pink October" campaign, which included lectures and free screening services, was organized in collaboration with several partners, including the Higher Institute of Biological Sciences and Applications in Tunis and the National Council of the Order of Pharmacists in Tunisia. The event aimed to raise awareness about breast cancer and promote early detection and treatment.
The treatment of breast cancer in Tunisia has become more comprehensive, considering not only the medical aspect but also the psychological and aesthetic aspects. With a focus on early detection and personalized treatment plans, patients can now receive more effective care and improve their quality of life.
