The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) and GMind Academy have announced a partnership to advance Artificial Intelligence (AI) training for teachers nationwide. This initiative aims to support teachers, schools, and other education stakeholders in understanding and safely adopting AI. The partnership was disclosed during a courtesy visit to the TRCN in Abuja by Dr. Success Ojo, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of GMind AI and Founder of GMind Academy.
The proposed training program will develop 774 AI Adoption Specialists, with one specialist designated for each Local Government Area. These specialists will serve as local AI adoption champions, helping schools and teachers navigate the use of AI in teaching, learning, assessment, and other educational activities. GMind Academy has offered to train the 774 specialists and provide each participant with two months of free access to the GMind AI platform.
The AI Adoption Specialists will enable teachers to learn, practice, and demonstrate practical applications of AI technology. This initiative is expected to extend AI adoption in education from the national level to the grassroots. By equipping teachers with practical skills to use emerging technologies responsibly, the partnership aims to enhance the quality of education in Nigeria.
Dr. Ojo also proposed that teachers who complete GMind Academy's Certified AI-ready Teacher Programme (CART) should be eligible to earn recognized professional development credits towards their continuing professional development requirements with TRCN. This proposal is subject to the Council's approval and applicable requirements. Integrating AI competency into teachers' continuing professional development will help make AI training a sustained part of their professional development.
