The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has partnered with the Zamfara State Teachers Service Board (TSB) to launch a compliance monitoring exercise for teacher registration and licensing across the state. This initiative aims to ensure that all teachers in Zamfara State meet the professional standards set by TRCN. The exercise was officially launched at Government Day Secondary School in Millennium Quarters, Gusau.
During the launch event, Chairperson of the Zamfara State Teachers Service Board, Hajiya Ummu Yusuf Anka, emphasized the importance of professionalism in improving the quality of education in the state. She highlighted that a well-trained, qualified, and professionally regulated teaching workforce is crucial for sustainable improvement in the education sector. Anka reaffirmed the state government's commitment to strengthening education and creating an enabling environment for teachers.
Anka urged teachers who have not registered with TRCN to use this exercise to complete their registration and licensing. She described professional registration as a key step towards enhancing accountability, professionalism, and standards in the teaching profession. This move is expected to promote a culture of professionalism among teachers and improve the overall quality of education in Zamfara State.
The TRCN state coordinator, Nura Shiitu Moriki, also spoke at the event, highlighting the benefits of registration with TRCN. He explained that registration provides teachers with professional recognition, which is relevant to career progression, promotion, and access to other professional opportunities. This has motivated many teachers to complete their registration and licensing.
Following the launch, three monitoring teams were deployed to the three senatorial zones to conduct sensitization and compliance monitoring in selected schools. The Central Senatorial Zone team, led by Anka, visited selected primary and secondary schools in Gusau, where teachers were sensitized on professional registration, licensing, and compliance with TRCN regulations.
The exercise is expected to strengthen collaboration between the TSB and TRCN while promoting professionalism, accountability, and adherence to regulatory standards among teachers. The Teachers Service Board has urged teachers who have yet to complete their TRCN registration and licensing to use this exercise to regularize their professional status.
Overall, the compliance monitoring exercise is a significant step towards ensuring that teachers in Zamfara State meet the required professional standards. By working together, TRCN and TSB aim to improve the quality of education in the state and promote a culture of professionalism among teachers.
