The judiciary and Namibian Police Force (Nampol) have extended a traffic fine amnesty by two months, now running until November 30, 2026. Initially set to end on September 30, 2026, the extension follows numerous requests from motorists for more time to settle outstanding fines. The amnesty program, announced on August 3, 2026, aims to help motorists with outstanding traffic admission of guilt fines.
The extension applies specifically to outstanding traffic admission of guilt fines and not to warrants of arrest or matters requiring further court action. These cases will be handled according to the Criminal Procedure Act, Act 51 of 1977. The judiciary emphasized that the finalization of individual matters depends on the presiding magistrate and applicable legal procedures.
Motorists can settle their fines in person at the court where they received the notice to appear. Payments are accepted from Monday to Friday during normal working hours. Alternatively, payments can be made through electronic funds transfer (EFT) using a designated bank account for the relevant court. The summons number, in red at the top right of the notice, must be used as the payment reference.
When paying through EFT, motorists must also include the name of the relevant court, indicated as the "place of trial" on the notice. Proof of payment and the reference number must then be submitted to the designated contact person at the applicable district court. The judiciary has provided banking and contact details for six court divisions across Namibia.
The six court divisions and their respective areas of coverage have been outlined by the judiciary. These include the Rundu division for Rundu and Katima Mulilo, the Otjiwarongo division for several areas in the Otjozondjupa and Oshikoto regions, and the Windhoek division for the Khomas and Hardap regions. Other divisions include Swakopmund, Keetmanshoop, and Oshakati, each covering multiple towns and regions.
The judiciary and Nampol have urged affected motorists to use the extended period to settle their outstanding fines before the new deadline. Motorists seeking assistance or clarification are advised to approach court personnel at the relevant district court.
